Saudi women often travel across the kingdom on work-related business and, due to the kingdom's strict rules against gender mixing, are left in a difficult situation when checking in at hotels.

The kingdom's hotels usually only accommodate women who are either accompanied by male family members or who have the approval of their male guardians in the form of either an approval document stamped by the man's place of work or letter from a police station.

"The new hotel is a serious attempt to tackle such a situation," Princess Madawi said.

In essence, this is a very progressive policy. Not quite as progressive as say, I don't know, liberating the female population from barbaric male oppression, but hey, its a start. At least the women won't have to dress like sand people while inside the hotel (or at least I presume). Think the patrons will lend us some money???

Good choice for Obama's V.P.

I understand that Mark Penn (right) has ruled that McCane should be president by saying Obama can't win a general election. However, anyone directly involved with the world of reality understands that Obama will win the nomination. Therefore, he must select a V.P. I think that Bob Graham might be a good choice. Even though I strongly disagree with his support for the Rave Act, I believe he would be a good choice. He has real foreign policy experience, he was at one point the governor of Florida, and his name his Bob. Obama will need the support of many Bobs this fall...

Morning Memo 2.0

Good morning.

- The U.S. Dollar is sinking to all time lows against currencies around the globe. This is getting bad, and ripple effects are appearing throughout the world. The Fed has decided to increase liquidity, which will thus, I presume, further weaken the Dollar. At least Israel is stepping in to help. Buy an umbrella folks! It may not rain today, but you will want to have something you own all by yourself when the other shoe drops. And umbrellas are still pretty cheap.

- Here is a bit more about Reverend Wright. I agree with Andrew Sullivan's sentiments at the end of this article. I too think that Sen. Obama must address this before it becomes a Swift Boat scenario. These sort of stories are like cancer; they can be treated, but only when done early and with surgical precision. Stories like this and feeble responses are not going to do the trick. The junior senator from Illinois is going to have to spend a good chunk of that 55 million he raised in February to deal with this. Otherwise, his delegate lead will suddenly appear less insurmountable in Denver this summer.

UPDATE: It appears that Obama is reading the Illiterate Electorate, as he posted a response at the Huffington Post to these remarks, only an hour after I suggested he act.

The Wright Controversy

The Democratic candidates spent much of the week trying to tamp down controversy provoked by their supporters. Earlier in the week, it was Geraldine Ferraro, whose racially charged remarks were denounced Wednesday night by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton after Mrs. Ferraro announced she was resigning from her honorary position on Mrs. Clinton’s campaign finance committee.

On Thursday the attention shifted to the camp of Senator Barack Obama, after a report was shown on “Good Morning America” on ABC, with clips of sermons by Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr., senior pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago.

Reverend Wright has been Mr. Obama’s spiritual mentor, and bloggers and television commentators spent the day picking over his stinging social and political critiques in the pulpit.

It was not the first time that questions have been raised about Reverend Wright and his criticisms of the United States government (he has referred to it as the “U.S. of KKK A.,” for instance).(Click here for more)

I wonder where this is going to go? My guess is that fat, crack whore fucking, truth hating scum surfer Mark Penn will be all over this so his girl's boy McCane can get elected.

Iraq.....

Here's a couple of polls that show how the occupation of Iraq is old news to most brain dead Americans. They are very telling. How can the MSM just drop the Iraq war as a story? Is it over? We all know that Fox noise has been doing their part for the White House by not reporting on the war but what about ABC, CBS, MSNBC or CNN? Politics are fun and games but we are occupying a country. Shouldn't that be the lead story EVERY night? Don't get me started on Afghanistan. I bet most people think we aren't there any more. (click the image to enlarge)

The second poll is just plain ignorance. How many of those polled that didn't even get close to the number of American troop dead in Iraq, have "Support the Troops" bumper stickers? I don't know that it shocks me too much considering that our own government doesn't even count the number of Iraqi's we've killed.

From March 13-16 in Washington DC there will be a group speaking about the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and their experiences in the warzone. You will not hear about this gathering from the MSM. I guarantee that Fox Noise (lover of the troops) will not spend one minute of air time of this story.

The Iraq Veterans Against the War will be in Washington to discuss the true costs of war. The gathering is called Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan. It is named after a similar gathering of Vietnam Vets who were protesting that war. John Kerry was part of the original group. It is named after Thomas Paine's quote of the true patriots who continued on after a horrible winter at Valley Forge.

Please take a minute out of your busy day to give their website a glance. Donate to the cause if you can. Tell a friend or 5 about this story. We need to spread the word of true American patriots who have served their country. They then learned they were lied to about the illegal occupation and have chosen to speak out about it. These men and women deserve our utmost gratitude.

(LATE) Morning Memo:

- Dateline: Tamarac, Florida- A town once famous for being the home of the great Kathy Willets, held an election yesterday where nobody showed up to vote. For the record, had anyone showed up the votes would have counted.

- Some of you may recall that war in Iraq. If so, you may remember the Carlyle Group. One of its subsidiaries, Carlyle Capital, is about to go under, as they can't pay a margin call. Normally when scum go down in flames I am happy. But when bastards like this are falling, that reflects the overall vulnerability of everyone in this economy, and that reality is something I can not rejoice.


- The Pentagon is seeking a uniform policy on video taping interrogations. I actually think all such interrogations should be recorded and filed away. Then, after a reasonable period of time (save for circumstances extreme in nature- ie- pending doom), they should be available to the public. While I recognize this would give prisoners a chance to prepare for their interrogations, the civil libertarian in me would rather error on the side of transparency and due process than brutality and safety.

- Lastly, the Chinese are again cracking down on the good people of Tibet. Please, boycott the 2008 Olympics...

Woman spends two years on the can....

A women in Kansas had to be physically removed from the toilet by local authorities. I am not sure what to say. Ouch? Why? I am actually very interested in this story, particularly from a phobia stand point. Some thoughts to ponder:
- What, if anything, did she read in there?
- What was the temperature inside the bathroom?
- Did she drink, smoke, or engage in any vices?
- Did she have a deck of cards?

I hope that some follow up is done on this.
