Quick Thoughts on the Palin Spree

As many of you by now have heard, Politico is reporting that the RNC has spent roughly 150,000 U.S.D. on clothing and makeup for Palin and her clan. I have mixed thoughts on all of this. In the scheme of things, this is a non story. Clearly, in my opinion, there are far more important matters to be discussed, and a tidbit like this cheapens them by not giving such topics their proper place in the public discourse.

But in fairness, in the cosmic scheme of things, none of this stuff matters in the face of questions related to the size and purpose of the Universe or the meaning of life. In other words, this is an issue that warrants discussion, as it portrays, once again, what a fraud this hockey mom is and how inept McCain has been at managing a campaign. A candidates campaign offers us the best preview of how they would run an administration, and I think this story speaks to the stark contrast between the Dem and Repub candidates.

Lastly, could you imagine if you were an inspired "Joe Six Pack" or even a "Joe the Plumber" and you spent your Pabst cash on a small donation to the McPalin campaign and found out that, instead of using it toward air time to take on your well financed opponent, they used that money on a shopping spree? Oh gosh, say it ain't so Joe...

Anyway, enough of the hit chat- Happy Cartographer Appreciation Day!!!

Is the guy who invented mall maps considered a cartographer? Because I'd like to express my appreciation to him on this fabulous day. I cannot tell you how nice it is to know the quickest route to Barnes & Noble from the Food Court.

It shouldn't matter but it does because it's one cut among the thousand causing death. $400 haircuts ruled the airwaves for weeks and anytime gooper hypocrisy/cognitive dissonance gets pointed out, I get a schadenfreude in my pants.

You Are Here. Malls are frightening.

I think that how the GOP campaign and how Palin herself as governor have used money are important issues for discussion. Yesterday an article came out exposing Palin's abuse of Alaskan public funds to pay for family vacations. The article also tells of how she committed fraud in the filing for her claims.

And I like amusement park maps. Here's a cheer for the guy who shows me how to get from Space Mountain to Splash Mountain to Thunder Mountain.

Has GPS killed the map? Will it?

I think it's hugely relevant and alzaido alzaido said it better than I could have.

I love maps soooo much. Happy Cartographers Day!

And thanks for the help animals button at the top of the page, you guys rock for helping the critters!!!!

GPS can't kill the map... GPS just shows your location on a map. without the map, GPS would just be a red dot and a silly voice.

GPS will never takeover the map for several reasons. The first and most important one is that maps and compasses do not require energy sources. Second, maps do not require being able to make contact with satellites. Satellite communication gets blocked by many things...clouds, inside buildings, mountains, tree canopies, etc. As Bush continues his cuts on our space/satellite programs, maps still exist to guide travelers. I can go on and on but you probably get the idea.

You guys so rock. Cartographer's day! I would have missed it completely if it hadn't been for you. Thanks, Sal. I love maps so much I save free map guides from my vacations. My favorite is a 2'x 3' fold up guide to Kailua/Lanikai & Waimanalo, which I study from late December through February.

And. I hated that unflappable GPS bitch the first time she got me lost, and I'll hate her senseless poise and phony perfect consistency until she finally directs me into the back of a jack-knifing semi in point five miles.
But. Enjoy map day, I will; yessss!

Helen- I think Palin's treatment of animals is, perhaps, he worst quality.

As for everyone else, I say GPS is for wimps. Real men read maps...

Every nitwit I was married to couldn't read a map if his life depended on it.

As for the little dog Palin's wardrobe...thats a whole helluva lot of PBR man! (Pabst Blue Ribbon)
