Unreal...

So our government won't help people after a natural disaster, hello New Orleans and now they won't even warn people?? A tornado ripped a 6 mile path through Atlanta. It hit two adjacent sports arenas filled with fans for a NCAA tourney and a Hawks game. The fans in the stadium were not told of the tornado. They were not moved or warned. Two people have died because of the tornado. From Yahoo News:

About 18,000 people were watching the Southeastern Conference men's tournament Friday night at the Georgia Dome when its fabric roof began rippling, the catwalks above the court started swaying and chunks of insulation rained onto the players.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning about eight minutes before the twister hit, but it wasn't clear when or if that alert was passed on to fans, said Katy Pando, a dome spokeswoman. Fans claimed they never heard or saw one.

Really!?! I'm sorry but if I was at that game I would be pissed. A tornado is barring down on me while I watch hoops and they get an 8 minute warning of it and they don't notify me? Unreal.

That seems to me that it is on the local authorities, who dropped the ball (no pun intended) or were watching the game (twas a good game)...

Sports are the most important thing in the US. You can't stop a game just for a tornado.

An announcement would have led to chaos and more than 8 people would have, most likely, been trampled to death.

Good point.

Anyone else notice that Bradda and I keep very different hours...

Are the "local authorities" not government? I didn't say this was Bush's fault. I just found it to be sick. Obviously your not going to scream into the PA system, "RUN TORNADO'S COMIN!!!". My point is that there are still no emergency plans in place for a lot of things although your "government" would have you believe otherwise. 8 minutes is a loong time. You would just figure when your in a huge public area where you PAID to be there, you'd think you should have a little security. I don't know about you but I would have rather known of my possible impending doom. Maybe I'm silly.

Bradda, I agree. We are NOT splitting hairs here. I am on your side. I am one of the good guys...

uhm, not trying to be a dick - but how can anyone protect you from a tornado? they don't really tell you where they're going.
